Blood Test May Help Assess Severity of Depression in Adolescents

Recent studies have shown that adolescents with depression exhibit elevated levels of specific molecules in their blood compared to their non-depressed counterparts.

This discovery holds promise for the early identification of teenagers at higher risk of developing depression, potentially leading to timely interventions.

Given that depression is a prevalent mental health issue, particularly among adolescents, with approximately 1 in 5 teenagers in the US meeting the criteria for major depressive disorder in 2021, the need for reliable diagnostic and treatment measures is increasingly pressing.
