When hammer coral says, “new yr, new me”, it actually means it: many colonies of the coral species change their intercourse yearly. The sample appears to be a primary amongst animals.
In 2011, Shinya Shikina on the Nationwide Taiwan Ocean College and his colleagues have been surveying hammer corals (Fimbriaphyllia ancora) within the tropical West Pacific Ocean. The researchers found that most of the colonies had modified intercourse because the earlier yr.
